Michael Goldman was the unfortunate soul in "Ghosts" whose world imploded when he discovered that his wife, recently murdered, in point of fact never existed - she had merely been a cover identity constructed by a one-time eco-terrorist called Cynthia Dern.
Goldman showed Detective Beckett a death certificate faxed to him by his lawyer, revealing that the real Allison Porter, his wife's cover identity, was of a three-month old baby who died in 1963 and that Cynthia had stolen her social security number.
