Byron H. Singer, the incarnation of Ralph Waldo Emerson's observation that a "foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds", is an insurance actuary, and the man who sent "Light Bulb Len" to the park on the evening he was killed.

Mr Singer is an avid ornithologist who insisted on have Len verifying and recording his sighting of a mated pair of red-tailed hawks, a recon mission which led to Len instead witnessing the kidnapping of Tyler Donegal, and his subsequent murder by the kidnapper.

Clearly for Mr. Singer, the loss of a human life pales into insignificance next to his sighting of the first mated pair in four decades.
