Glitch is the son of Brian Reilly, chief legbreaker of The Westies in "Headhunters".
Glitch's given name is Michael Reilly, which is particularly relevant since he's a corpse as the episode begins, gunned down with a bag of severed heads by a party or parties unknown.
His street name comes from his tendency to be a complete screw-up, a trait which would have seen him dead long since with any other family. He has, just recently, abandoned a truckload of medical supplies on the freeway since he didn't think to put gas in the tank.
Shea, another youngblood in the clan, had some kind of beef with Glitch, causing Brian to go looking for him when he heard about his son's death.
However, under interrogation by Detective Ethan Slaughter, Shea reveals that he and the rest of the gang were told to cut Glitch off by Finn Rourke, the Westies' leader, who was tired of the endless bumbling of Reilly Jr..
It appears, for some time, as if rival gangs set Glitch up with the heads, looking to provoke an all-out gang war, but in the end Castle, with the aid of Beckett, Ryan and Esposito, is able to convince Slaughter to look again at the motive for the murder.
Phone records show that Glitch called his dad, and his own testimony reveals that Brian finally snapped, feeling the humiliation of such a failure for a son, and shot him. Glitch managed to crawl away, however, leaving Brian in trouble for one last time.
