Sam Siegel, former co-owner of the Sapphire Coast Resort & Casino, is the body that turns up to kick off "Heartbreak Hotel".
A series of betrayals led to him being found dead, but as the reassembled tale shows he was an immoral, abusive man, his loss is little mourned.

- Although not mentioned, it is heavily implied that Sam Siegel was based on the legendary Jewish-American mobster Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel, considered the "founder of Las Vegas" and who, like Sam, was also brutally murdered.
- Given this fact, it is likely that Sam's real name was Samuel Siegel and that Sam was his nickname (just like Bugsy Siegel in real life, whose real name was Benjamin Siegel and Bugsy was his nickname), since Sam is the main nickname of those named Samuel (the other nickname used by those named Samuel is Sammy).
