Sara El-Masri was born in Cairo, Egypt into a wealthy family. She became a U.S. immigrant and developed a friendship with her classmate, Alexis Castle, at Columbia University.
Because Sara just happened to be there when Alexis was captured, the kidnappers took her as collateral damage, with Sara's unofficial bodyguard, Hasim Farouk, being killed while trying to save her. Due to her being the daughter of two former higher-ups in Egypt, the FBI initially assumed that the kidnapping was aimed at Sara instead of Alexis.
Sara aided Alexis in finding a way for them to be rescued and together, they were eventually able to break out of their cell. Sara continued aiding Alexis in escaping, until she was caught and eventually ransomed, as the kidnappers didn't really need her anymore.
Notes[]
- Karen David, the actress who played Sara, was hurt on set while filming and thus didn't appear in the second episode of the Castle two-part special, "Hunt". A double was used in her place.[citation needed]
- Despite being of Egyptian descent, Sara had an essentially British accent, not uncommon in someone who likely spent much of her education in boarding schools.
