External link icon problem

See User_talk:Scarecroe#You_messed_up_the_external_link_icon. Maybe you can fix it instead of Scarecroe (whCastle Wikio appears to be Wikia staff and not really an admin of this wiki). I also notified KyleKroll. -- Fandyllic (talk · contr) 6:29 PM PST 27 Jul 2010

I made a new wiki logo. I tried to make it so it would look decent on light background skins also.

Castle Wiki logo

On light background:

If you want to see what it looks like without changing it sitewide, put the following in your Special:MyPage/monaco.css:

I hope you like it. I posted this same message at User talk:KyleKroll. -- Fandyllic (talk · contr) 7:19 PM PST 29 Jul 2010

KyleKroll and bureaucrat rights

If KyleKroll never responds to your request to have your bureaucrat rights restored, you could consider adopting this wiki and getting bureaucrat rights that way. Technically you would not be eligible to adopt this wiki until August 22nd, which is 60 days from the last activity by KyleKroll on this wiki.

It's kind of funny to have to adopt back a wiki you founded, but it happens I guess. If you don't want to lose control of the wiki again, you should make sure not to neglect it for more than 60 days. -- Fandyllic (talk · contr) 4:59 PM PST 11 Aug 2010

i know its kinda funny too, plus he is never on anymore but i can wait till aug 22 daboss 18:08, August 12, 2010 (UTC)

Aug 22 has passed. You might want to try to adopt this wiki back now. Also, if you would be so kind, I'd like to be a sysop here. I'd like to expand the sidebar, but I'm not exactly sure yet what I want to do. It would also allow me to rename images and some maintenance type of stuff. -- Fandyllic (talk · contr) 10:21 AM PST 6 Sep 2010

actally its september 7, that i can get it back, when i get it back, i will definally make you sysop daboss 15:16, September 7, 2010 (UTC)

Becoming an admin and other stuff

Can I still be and admin?

When you get time, see if you can make File:Oasis-wordmark.png the new logo for the wiki. It is for the new skin.

Also, with the new skin, you might want to play with the Theme Designer.

How to remove an image?

hi, sorry to be a pain, but how would I remove an image completely. e.g. in the recent images, it shows a Chuck one... as I'm afraid I was rather confused and hadn't a clue how to add an avatar (not your fault, wikia is a lot different to wikipedia and I'm still trying to get used to it (this is the first wikia I've wanted to strongly contribute to)). Anyway, apologies for my ineptitude, hope I'm still welcome here as I love Castle (the show, not Rick :P Although I do admire his awesomeness) and would love to help to contribute. An inquiry in your role as "Lord High Executioner" - As the "Caffeinated" badge is silver, is there a gold variant, and, if so, how many edits in a single day are required to earn it? Jiskran 23:01, June 19, 2012 (UTC)

As the originator of this wiki, where do you stand on the subject of outside links? The reason I ask is, it seems to me that a number of pages and topics under discussion already have at least a partial expression at tvtropes.org, and was wondering whether linking them up might not be appropriate. Jiskran 12:26, June 22, 2012 (UTC)

As you are, from what I can tell, the sole active administrator, is there any chance you could share the burden with someone else, because, at the moment, material is flooding in. I believe there have been some 300 new pages in the last 10 days or so. So as not to be left with a massive overhaul later, it would be helpful to have a regularly available user with admin privileges. Alex Jiskran 13:21, July 1, 2012 (UTC)

Categories and more

Just in case I get booted out of here some time soon, I'd like someone to know what I've set up, in case it's useful.

I've created the following significant category tags:-

Beckett Conspiracy - for key episodes and personnel in the central plot point (excluding the two leads)

OCG - for characters and episodes in which organized crime or street gang involvement is important

Motives categories (also a page), 3 in total

  Passion - emotion or moment
   Profit - clear gain
Protection - reputation or hide crime

3 little letters - cases or characters with vital FBI, CIA, DEA, DHS etc. links or participation

When editing, I have attempted to leave the original contributor's voice as intact as possibe, whilst making the whole reasonably clear English. I have added very little even to the shortest entries already compiled by others, and have tried not to fill all the available slots still requiring some sort of article, so as to leave space for others. I know my near-constant presence over the last couple of weeks has irked several users, but I have been doing my best to take their comments into account, and to not edit around them. The majority of my input has been minor grammatical amendments and consistency issues between articles, as well as creating a very large number of links between pieces.

There are so many reference and organization issues with regard to the entries here, that my endeavor has been to bring some kind of clarity and conssitency to the various pages.

I apologize for the length of this comment, but as I said, I fear I may soon be asked to leave, and I wanted you, as founder, to be able to utilize what I will leave behind, if you want to.

As I mentioned before, I think you could use another administrator of some order, to share the workload.

All the best, Alex Jiskran 12:34, July 8, 2012 (UTC)

but who should i pick as another administrator, should i hold a contest or something, or should i just make you the admin Daboss 18:24, July 8, 2012 (UTC)

I think that depends entirely on your vision of what you want done with your site. As founder, I imagine you had some goal in mind, and, if you, by whatever means, select an administrator, you will have the power, I presume, to change your mind at a later date and revoke such privilege.

Speaking for myself, I enjoy trying to give this shape and connectivity, but I cannot possible be an impartial judge of the effect my presence is having on others, or the site as a whole. Until someone in authority, like yourself, asks me to leave, I will continue to contribute, but probably not at anything like the same rate, since I have been ill, and this has been all I could do.

I believe that some clear, discussed guidelines, if possible a personal exchange with anyone who stays around the site for any length of time and has an account, would assist. I, for example, didn't realise that I could hurt someone else's feelings by replacing an image with an identical, but better quality, copy. Perhaps, it would be good to let people know they should give others time, say a minimum twenty minutes, from any edit they make before they go to the same page and make changes. I'm sure Lennie, Carol and Christy would have other suggestions to add.

Alex Jiskran 18:37, July 8, 2012 (UTC)

ok i will make some guidelines, but where should i put them, the front page or in a blog post,i was just gonna put in in a blog post but will front page be better? Daboss 19:02, July 8, 2012 (UTC)

I myself feel the location matters less than a link, probably in the standard "Welcome" message, highlighting the importance of a quick read.

If it's not too complex to do, there could be a box for further suggestions with it. Jiskran 19:07, July 8, 2012 (UTC)

but what kind of guidelines, should i put in it, like how often can you post after you post something before. stuff like that? Daboss 19:10, July 8, 2012 (UTC)

Definitely the time point, but also, as I said, your vision of what this wiki is about. Is it a communal well for fans of Castle to gather around, sip the waters and have a little chat, or is it more like a debate forum, for the exchange of ideas and opinions? Do you want people making endless contributions, or would you prefer to wait for a little from more and varied sources? Is there a healthy balance, and how can it be struck?

I would say, for example, that if you want people to contribute more slowly, losing the "Caffeinated" and "Pounce" badges would be a good first step. Likewise, maybe people could somehow mark a text if they didn't generally want it changed, and then an administrator could decide whether it was so unclear in English that it needed improvement, or whether it could stay as it was. Maybe the "no-change" protection could have a limited duration, I don't know, say five days. My recommendation would definitely be to contact the 10 or so registered users who are here most often, and get their input before making any final decision.

These are my first thoughts - I may have more later,

Alex

I dont know if i have the power to delete badges, the only thing i can do is turn off achievements and saying of "no-change"protection, i can do it by articles, but i can check if i can do a mass protection. Daboss 19:15, July 9, 2012 (UTC)

Badge/achievement issue

I think, if it is said to people who actually use the site with regularity, what the aims are, i.e. try not to step on other people's work, don't be in too much of a hurry, etc. then, hopefully, the badges don't really matter. I doubt anyone is working on this simply to collect points.

I've been thinking about what you said earlier, and, if it was a serious offer, I would like to try functioning as an administrator for the site. It would mean, for me, that I would plan to spend at least an hour twice a day, minimum here, probably quite a bit more.

If I do become an adminstrator, as I said, I would plan to get in touch individually with the most regular users and look for some feedback, and try to resolve any differences we still have.

Alex Jiskran 19:23, July 9, 2012 (UTC)

How do i delete a single badge? the only power i have over the bedges is to change the picture and text, i also can turn it off Daboss 17:42, July 10, 2012 (UTC)

Hey, did you think about turn them off to see what happen. A friend told me go to Special:WikiFeatures, it might help. Christy32 20:47, July 10, 2012 (UTC) [my time here is 17:47 (ET)]

Turn Badges OFF

Hi, name is Sabrina, I am new to this new wiki and see there a issue with badges, I wondering why you haven't turn them off. I know some wiki site don't have them due competition of other users. I see it easy to contributed and not to worry. I don't feel comfortable not login using my IP address (you can find out where you are by using IP address by going to IP search site). Doctorwho-fanatic1980 17:12, July 14, 2012 (UTC)

Standards and practices

JP, as far as I'm concerned, whether the badges are on or off will make no difference to my involvement. I have, however, tried to reach a compromise with Lennie38.

I suggested he sends me a message with the season(s) he'll be working on, and I'll work elsewhere. However, given that he seems to write little anywhere, not just on this wiki, I've no idea if it will suffice. Alex Jiskran 18:05, July 14, 2012 (UTC)

Need for an Admin

Some anonymous individual is making multiple changes to the beginning of Season 1, reordering the sequence of episodes etc. The IP is 216.197.244.187. This is why we NEED another Admin on this site ASAP, because you are not often here. Alex Jiskran 19:29, July 15, 2012 (UTC)

Okay i will check that, and sorry i havent been on alot, i just been busy and i will promote some people to rollback because i need somebody that is trustworthy as admin, i already made a blog about it. JP Daboss (talk) 18:36, July 16, 2012 (UTC)

Status

I'm sorry if I went over the top yesterday, but it was frustrating watching this guy wrecking all this work, not maliciously, but with no one able to stop him or fix it easily. Can you please at least promote a couple of people to rollback immediately, so that these kinds of things can be undone without difficulty? Alex

PS I changed a word in my previous message, because it offended some people. A Jiskran 05:35, July 16, 2012 (UTC)

Daboss, I'm going to create a Sandbox, and put links I think might be useful in there. Could you have a look at it at some point and let me know which ones could go on the relevant pages, or else tell me your general policy on links? Thanks, Alex Jiskran (talk) 09:36, July 18, 2012 (UTC)

Admin stuff for when you're back from vacation.

I have a page I've added to pages for deletion-- an all caps fan wank regarding Caskett. Also, please add Season 5 to the top navigation bar. Hope you had a nice trip! 131.96.13.213 19:42, July 27, 2012 (UTC)

Ping! (to include Season 5 in the title bar; one of the few things that requires an admin.) Chrazriit (talk) 01:49, August 19, 2012 (UTC)

Copyright violations

Based on DoctorWhoFanatic's discovery, I investigated her allegations of perjury. She was absolutely correct. Many, in fact, most of the recaps in Season 4 are plagarized from Wetpaint, a for-profit news site that covers Castle. All the illegal content was added by a single user, who I've already warned. I went through that user's previous contributions and found a total of 11 recaps, all of which have been removed. I don't recommend banning the user at this time, but if they do it again you won't have much choice.

I'm in the middle of going through all episode recaps in case there's more plagarism. Unfortunately, many of the recaps I've checked in Season 3 are plagarized as well, this time from the official ABC Castle site. Again, illegal. Again, I'm removing them, and have warned the user in question. This user hasn't contributed in more than a year, so I doubt if we'll see them again. I'm aiming to have screened all recaps by the end of the week. 131.96.13.213 20:16, August 12, 2012 (UTC)

Thank you for letting me know, i may start inforcing rules for this wiki, thanks JP Daboss (talk) 21:10, August 12, 2012 (UTC)

My pleasure. Just for the record, this copyright thing finally forced me to create a user account. Other than deleting copyrighted content and issuing warnings to users who added it (both of which I've done) the only other thing is banning users who repeatedly violate the copyright rules. So nothing to do yet. Chrazriit (talk) 21:18, August 12, 2012 (UTC)
why didnt you made a account before? Daboss (talk) 21:21, August 12, 2012 (UTC)
A bunch of reasons... most of which boils down to the fact that I haven't needed an account. However, after a major problem like this one, it was necessary to keep stuff straight. Also, it has changed my mind about accountability on the wiki.
Incidentally, I have now reviewed the entire run of the series (all four seasons) to eliminate copyrighted recaps. I think I got them all. Thanks to DoctorWhoFanatic, Christy, and Alex for helping me track them all down. I'll try to get around to writing more summaries soon. Incidentally, I don't want to brag, but now that I've deleted all my (illegal) competition, I've written the most episode summaries on the wiki! There's something to be said for having your competitors... liquidated. ;) Chrazriit (talk) 23:17, August 12, 2012 (UTC)

Fall TV Badge

Greetings!
With the fall TV season approaching, we've created this main page badge so users can have an opportunity to see what's coming up, and possibly learn about shows they might not have heard of yet:

Wikia Fall-TV-badge 300px

As always, this is a completely optional addition, but we wanted to include this wiki in our list of fall TV wikis that we're offering it to. At 300px width, it's designed to live on the top of the right main page column, but if you choose to add it you're welcome to move it anywhere you like. Please message me on my talk page to let me know if you'd like to add it (I can put it up for you, or you're welcome to add it yourself), or if you choose to decline - so that I can check this wiki off my list.
Thank you for your time!

Nav Bar

I noticed that we're not getting everyone in the cast showing up on the nav bar that I edited. It's because submenus only get 7 items, so we lose Tamala Jones and Reuben Santiago-Hudson from the cast list.

So I made some more changes... feel free to revert, but this way we get the whole cast and characters into the menu, and in an attractive and easy-to-use format. I removed "new images" because that's already an entry on the On The Wiki site. I'd also like to remove the Leaderboard from the menu (not from the wiki, just de-emphasize it a bit to discourage point-hoarding). We could replace it with a link for "Best Articles" which we can all decide on as a group, so we can encourage quality over quality.

I also messed with the categories a bit. Supporting Characters are now truly supporting characters, and as a bonus, the list matches up with the Supporting Cast. There are some categories that are redundant (like "officer" and "police officer"), some that make no sense (putting main characters into the Seasons category), and some that are just weird (notable characters, who as far as I can tell means everyone). The re-categorization helps the navbar effort, too.

The only changes that required admin rights are to the navbar. Chrazriit (talk) 16:55, September 4, 2012 (UTC)

Upcoming Season

Hi! Since the new season of Castle is coming up, I was wondering if you would mind if I updated the main page and skin? I am also planning on going through the wiki to see if there is anything I can help add. Let me know if you have a preference or whatnot, thanks!

Gcheung28 (talk) 17:59, September 5, 2012 (UTC)

sure, i dont mind Daboss (talk) 02:21, September 9, 2012 (UTC)

New Wikia formatting

I've checked and our Navbar is fine for the new wiki changes on Oct 3. We'll need to go through and check the background, but since Grace just installed it I'm suspecting it's fine too. Chrazriit (talk) 13:29, September 20, 2012 (UTC)

Live Chat?

Hey! So - I was wondering if you'd be open to the idea of inviting users to log in to the wiki when Castle airs each week, and chat live about the show with their fellow viewers in real time. Several wikis are starting to set up weekly live chats, and this one seems large enough to get a good solid group of users together who want to sit on the ol' "virtual couch" & chat about the show as they watch it.

The chat system is already in place, it would simply be a matter of however you'd want to get the invite out - main page banner, blog post, or w/e. I can promote it on my end through our social media and spotlight outlets...

What do you think?
Siggy4.png @@fandom (profile)•(talk)•(email) 08:07, September 25, 2012 (UTC)

Quiz?

Another fun thing I was thinking of is to do a quiz with questions about the season premiere. If you wanted to supply me with like 5 questions (with correct answers), I could build one for you & put it live for users to play around with. Just another interactive feature that fans might enjoy, let me know! :)

Comments feature!

Hi. I noticed you're an admin here and, seeing as only admins/bureaucrats can activate the comments feature, I'm approaching you about it.. :)

Anyway, I was wondering if you've ever had that on this wiki and it was just decided to remove the feature or if you've never really had it activated before.. I just think (and actually, as a fan, I want it too lol) that comments can be really good for this site, cuz it would generate conversation about the episodes or characters and whatnot, and the blogs are quite inactive, so..

Yeah, just wondering if you would mind having that feature activated. :D

redwall64 02:13, November 4, 2012 (UTC)

Hi Daboss. :) Please notice this question of mine. Thanks redwall64 11:18, November 10, 2012 (UTC)

Suspects category change

You are, as we say, The Boss. I've been approached to take a look at one of our new users, who's been making a long list of edits. Many have been fine, but I did notice one thing that I wanted to discuss with you. (I've also sent a version of this to some other very active users). I don't want to punish an active new user but I also don't want to see them embark on a major change like this without a chance for people to comment on it.

User:MichuPachu has been making some major changes to the definition of a "suspect" for category purposes. Several dozen pages have been affected already. I've initiated a conversation on the talk page here, which really should have been done before making such a drastic change; I've also notified him of the importance of talking this kind of thing over before rearchitecting everything.

Anyway, wanted to make sure you were aware in case you disagree with how I'm handling it.Chrazriit (talk) 21:46, November 4, 2012 (UTC)

thank you for letting me know about that Daboss (talk) 03:42, November 8, 2012 (UTC)

Changes happen to fast

As founder and admins, I happen to notice recently changes as you already know about Suspect category? It look like someone changes Template for Infobox character, even though it makes looks better. Something like that should been ask by you or Chrazriit before changing that big. I like see everyone get fair chance to contribute not have someone put whole lot on article here. If its minor okay but if you leave no more room for contributing on subject or article when that whole other topic to talk about. I don't want be someone cause trouble, but I worry after this past summer copyright incident when someone want on contribute a lot in the first or so after join. I am going to sent this message to Chrazriit too. I just don't want see anything bad happen to site. Please forgive if I worry, if is nothing okay. Sabrina (talk) 13:36, November 8, 2012 (UTC)

Hi. The edit to the infobox character template was mine. My apologies if I should have asked proper permission first. The edits were minor, just added a few info, and integrated some from those in Kate and Castle's. If you do not like the changes I made, just tell me and I will gladly revert the changes back to the way they were before. Sorry and thanks :) redwall64 14:32, November 8, 2012 (UTC)

Hi it's me again.. I was the one above asking if you would mind activating the comments feature. I'm not sure if you receive notifications about it so I just decided to leave a new message on your wall..

I was wondering what you think about activating the "Article Comments" & "Message Wall" features? It'd be good for interaction, really, in my opinion. :) redwall64 11:43, November 10, 2012 (UTC)

Just for the record, my feeling is that we already have the Talk pages for this purpose. Chrazriit (talk) 18:56, November 11, 2012 (UTC)
I have to agree with Chrazriit on this matter. Christy32 (talk) 19:22, November 11, 2012 (UTC)
Oh okay. Thanks guys. I was just curious anway :) redwall64 01:10, November 12, 2012 (UTC)
ya we already have talk pages Daboss (talk) 01:31, November 13, 2012 (UTC)

Main Page Layout

There, I've done the prelim changes.. I'm thinking of adding a light brown/creamed colored background to each section someday. Please tell me if you want anything changed or added or removed. Thanks again for the opportunity :) redwall64 13:09, November 13, 2012 (UTC)

I like it so far but i want to add the facebook page link and twitter to the main page. thanks Daboss (talk) 20:47, November 13, 2012 (UTC)

JP, If you notices Redwall64 put the facebook and twitter links in social sites section with symbol for them link to it. It's good layout so far too but I don't understand why need affiliates of ABC Wikis but that just me. Christy32 (talk) 22:03, November 13, 2012 (UTC)
Aw, thanks you guys. :) Yeah, I've put the fb and twitter link, it's below the social sites heading.. As for the ABC wiki affiliates, sorry just thought I'd put it there cuz I've seen a bunch of other abc wikis with it on their homepage. Just tell me if I should take it off :D redwall64 23:06, November 13, 2012 (UTC)

Character Name

Hi, this is Christy I thought I let you and other admin know that User talk:MichuPachu switch the character first name again. I corrected it the first time but now they switched back. The character was in the episode "Under the Gun" and the character was killer and wife deceased in that episode. Character name is to be Brooke Carver not Gayle. I re-watch the episode before I correct it the first time. I thought I say something because I'm afraid to correct it again and then have switch again. Although credited as on some site Gayle, but she was identified as "Brooke Carver" by Castle and others. The same happen on Sophia Turner page. I don't want cause trouble with other user. Christy32 (talk) 19:29, November 13, 2012 (UTC)

Just to update JP, I reverted the edits in question and warned the user. (No response, actually to any of the communications on their talk page). However, their edits have mostly been good so I don't think disciplinary action is merited at this point. I'll be checking back on the suspects page to see what the consensus is. Chrazriit (talk) 16:48, November 15, 2012 (UTC)

Achievements Leaderbroad/Badge

I am new here before I contribute anything, as you know there a blog that brought up matter of Leaderbroad and Badge, I was wondering how many comment will be until decision for Achievements Leaderbroad/Badge to be turn off. I feel that longer it on, its going to cause some problems plus inaccuracy information submitted to pages or even maybe fighting. Also you should also consider have another admin here other Chrazriit here, when two busy and not here. You need someone who watching, plus maintain and makes should there no wrong done to this wonderful wiki. It's like the saying when the cat's away, the mice will play. I find that when you have someone there not many problem popping up. NikkiJoCastle (talk) 15:13, November 14, 2012 (UTC)

I'm going to jump on the conversation briefly, since you mentioned me. I regularly go through the activity logs and review the edit history for the wiki. Even when I'm not making lots of changes, I try to review edits every day. Problematic edits fall into four categories:
  • Controversial edits: changes where a user thinks their improving the wiki with often insightful commentary or editorializing. The problem comes because there are legitimate differences of opinion between editors. Usually these are the best contributors, who we want to encourage, so when they come in conflict the solution is diplomacy. My solution in these cases is to refer people to the talk pages to make their case and talk it through before making major changes. For extreme changes (like Alex's thematic pages a few months ago, which I liked), changes should go in the sandbox first.
  • Bad Grammar: Some people have good ideas, but awful grammar and spelling. If it's bad enough, it's better to revert the entire edit than let the wiki fall apart. We did a lot of work over the summer to raise the quality of the writing, and I'd hate to see it fall again. Where the contribution is good enough to merit it, I do a copy-edit to rescue the addition.
  • Redundant / Unnecessary / Inaccurate edits: This is editing for editing's sake, often by people trying to climb the leaderboard. Adding new sections that paraphrase things already said in an article, long off-topic meanderings, "fan wank" (ie speculation or gushing or extreme levels of minutae). Not just text content, it's often photos and categories, which can be a pain to strip out. They're the hardest to police, and I mostly try to give contributors the benefit of the doubt.
  • Copyright violations: Those are (mostly) gone, though I still find a couple here and there. With the images and screen caps in particular we need to be careful not to go beyond what Fair Use lets us do in terms of commentary and criticism.
Straight-out vandalism is pretty rare. I should point out, none of this needs an Admin to clean it up. I was working on these long before I had Admin access. As far as I'm concerned, the BanHammer should only be wielded by JP except in extreme situations, and no one I'm seeing on the wiki merits that at this time. If you see a bad edit, your job as a wiki editor is to try to fix it, or engage with the other editors to improve the page together. There's no need to wait for me; I try to give edits the maximum benefit of the doubt.
As for the Leaderboard, JP is DaBoss(tm) and it's his call when and if we turn it off. Speaking in general, it's best if major policy changes come with lots of input from editors and some time so that people can think through the implications. Chrazriit (talk) 16:48, November 15, 2012 (UTC)
Thank you for backing me up on that, chrazriit, yes i am the one that will decide on if and when we turn off the Achievements Leaderbroad/Badge. I know we been having bad editors that have been messing up the wiki, i been looking at it and i am finally going to block/limit their editing power, but i need a list of those editors first. I am not bashing all of the editors, just some of them. I am planning on turning off the Achievements Leaderbroad/Badge soon. Daboss (talk) 20:08, November 16, 2012 (UTC)

Regard Interlanguage links

Hi, I sending this message to you and Chrazriit so you can both decision.

It in regard of Interlanguage links that are normally found at the bottom of the main page layout on most wiki site. It creates link between the same page but in different languages. I notice this wiki site don't have one. I was wondering if you ever consider putting one on this wiki. I know briefly that this Interlanguage link has to be requested, but I don't if you have to be administer or the founder or anyone. I know there a help page title Help:Interlanguage links at all wikis. But I know there no requests page setup but if you go on Community Central:Interlanguage link requests it may help you. It would be fun to see what other Castle wiki site are out there in different languages. I known of currently of 3 Castle wiki in different language. There a listed below. Christy32 (talk) 23:10, November 15, 2012 (UTC)

Can we talk?

Is there a time we can talk on chat? Nothing urgent. There are a few things I wanted to run by you and I think chat would be better than back-and-forth on talk pages. Chrazriit (talk) 20:19, November 19, 2012 (UTC)

sure but when will you be on? Daboss (talk) 19:48, November 24, 2012 (UTC)

Behavior of user

Hey as I notice that your are founder and admin for this wiki. As it my habit of noticing things and behavior. I noticed the similarly between castle wiki user MichuPachu and new user HetchMan. There are simialar even in the way the photo are crop which make you think it might be the same person. Probably just me notice this. NikkiJoCastle (talk) 17:42, November 21, 2012 (UTC)

Okay i will look into it, thank you. Daboss (talk) 22:14, November 21, 2012 (UTC)

What You Policy on Image Copying or Sharing

I am happen to be new here but I recently along with online friend notice some of your image from here were copy to german castle wiki pages. One being titled Wiki-wordmark.png plus along with some photo that look like they contributed by another one of your user User:Jiskran and some by User:Christy32. I don't want to cause any problem but I think is stealing and user who did User:Marleen Pierce and she put them at her created German wiki website http://de.castle-deutschland.wikia.com/wiki/Castle_Wiki. You should check it out to if there any image that were created for this wiki there. I don't think person ask use them. Wanderer23 (talk) 00:31, December 3, 2012 (UTC)

i just looked at it and they copyed alot of stuff from our wiki, i will try and talk to the founder Daboss (talk) 21:03, December 7, 2012 (UTC)

Hi that's now the only German wiki site, friend of mines told me about this. The Castle German wiki is http://de.castle.wikia.com/wiki/Castle_Wiki and look like they are doing the same even keep the names on jpg or png the same. I been told and also my friend also told me all contributions that are made including images are licensed by CC-BY-SA, that means that the information can be shared without any problem as long as the appropriate attribution. Only these site aren't link image and material are from our wiki. It like they claim it there. My friend say why can't they come up with something original on there end, there many image for an episode they could used. I didn't know what to say, but thought I let you of this. Cause slightly upset and annoying me that they do this. Christy32 (talk) 01:49, January 24, 2013 (UTC)
The person who doing most that transferring of images and some text from this wiki is german user called KlaineLieberin. Also notice that some unregister Wikia user ask them why? Wanderer23 (talk) 20:28, January 24, 2013 (UTC)

Trivia Section

I left a post on the talk page of the main page for the wiki, and haven't received any responses. I was wondering if you could give your opinion either here or on the talk page. I will also post this on Chrazriit's talk page as well. I've added the original post below.
-- I added subheadings to the trivia section on the After the Storm page as a way to organize the information. A long list of trivia can be overwhelming at times, and in my experience, it helps the reader to have that focus.

*Alternately, the ==== could be removed so that the subheadings don't show in the table of contents (wasted space?) and the 'edit' tags don't appear next to the subheadings (messy?). I used four = (instead of three) in order to distinguish the size of the subheading from the one above it.
*Also, more subheadings could be added (i.e. characters, timeline, victims, continuity, etc.), however I feel that it breaks the topic into too many subdivisions and it appears a bit messy.
*That being said, a 'miscellaneous' section (as a catch all) or even 'gaffes' or 'goofs' section (for those fun mistakes that devotees notice) might be helpful/desirable.

Of course, this may all be a moot point if you don't like it. Which is ok by me. The page can simply be reverted. Karen (talk) 18:13, November 21, 2012 (UTC)

Let me make it clear, that this is not a ploy to increase points or badges, because honestly I don't need no stinkin' badges. The trivia section is usually the first section I look at, and so this is simply a suggestion to clarify the content in the section.Karen (talk) 02:50, December 10, 2012 (UTC)

Hi Team,

I'm very big fan of Castle and watch every episode. Beckett and Castle looks cute and I like to see them together.

New wordmark proposal

Thanks for using it. -- Fandyllic (talk · contr) 28 Dec 2012 10:06 PM Pacific
I like too. Previous one was good to but now I think about it, this one is better update look. Christy32 (talk) 16:21, December 29, 2012 (UTC)

Changes Again

I don't if you notice a user is rewriting layout in season 1 and season 2 so far. Their going around with who starring, trivia and quotes to be order. I don't think anyone care if its in order or clarifying on detail. It just the way user going about this without discuss it with you, other admins or current long term user here before see if should be done. It just had the user doing it has you favorite now taken over. This is my observing view of what been going on. Talk with user might help before something help. Don't seen to show respect for any user work even if it need some help. I'm just worried that your site might have trouble down road with user and others come in contact. Please forgive me if I worry but I like this wiki and so do another. NikkiJoCastle (talk) 04:38, December 24, 2012 (UTC)

I am the user that has been making those changes. And, actually, I have posted questions about doing these changes on the Wiki's Main Page talk page (Trivia Section and Quote Format Uniformity), as well as having posted questions about making these changes on both Admins talk pages (look about two headings above this one). I left it posted so that Admins or current long term users could post their comments/opinions about these changes... and pretty much heard nothing. So I went ahead with it.
I don't believe I have disrespected other user's work if, as you said, it needed some help. That is the point of a Wiki, to have editors work to improve the site. It is sometimes difficult not to take an edit to one's own work personally - believe me, I struggle with it sometimes. And it's not as though I have overhauled the layout. I have corrected the order of the credits to reflect them as seen in the episode in order to make them more accurate (rather than arbitrary). Additionally, I have put the quotes and trivial facts in order that they are said/occur... maybe just a personal preference, but many wikis do this so that the information doesn't just end up as a hodgepodge of dialog or trivia.
I can see how others wouldn't like the headings for the quotes section, which is why I specifically addressed this on multiple talk pages. And yet the only response I received was from an unregistered user, Redwall64, and an admin (that did not address the topic under which the comment was posted).
I'm sorry if this response is coming off as over-aggressive. But I suspected based on past issues this wiki has had with users, that someone would take issue with my edits (regardless if they were, as you said, helpful to the content or something that no one particularly cared about). I just wish that these issues would have been addressed on their talk pages closer to the time when I posted them.
I hope that other users will weigh in on this topic as well. Give me an opinion, and let's come to a consensus on whether or not quotes and trivia should be in order of occurance, and if credits should be reflective of how the episode provides credits. Karen (talk) 05:49, December 24, 2012 (UTC)
I feel that you should have maybe of wait for response but you got to see that a lot us busy at this year to be around right now not only that but we live in different time zones. Some might be on holiday vocation. If didn't get reply back should wait or do nothing. The only admins here areDaboss and Chrazriit and then the current long term user would be Christy32. 70.91.2.185 17:52, December 24, 2012 (UTC)
Sorry haven't been around later like what the up user comment say, I'm one of few that have busy with hoildays. Feel that should wait, too. Our founder is busy person and he might haven't time reply back right away. You can rush especially with all copyright business that went on this past year. I can see quote divde need remove but quotes being put in order like transciption. Plus the way putting the Trivia is confusing for future that the layman. We got differnt people that at all ages here. Truly A Watcher (talk) 03:40, December 25, 2012 (UTC)
To the question of the holidays and waiting for a response, I will concede that I should have waited longer given the holidays. Two reasons why I did not: 1) an admin posted a response under the topic heading, but it was NOT a response to the proposed change. So my conclusion was that he didn't have a strong opinion on the matter. 2) I've looked through other talk pages on this wiki so I could gain an understanding of the community of contributors. And in doing so, have noticed comments and suggestions that have gone unresponded to. This led me to believe that it was a common practice not to receive feedback on all suggestions.
Also, in looking through various talk pages, I've noticed that there have been several instances on this wiki in which contributors have had their edits challenged. Some of those challenges have seemed reasonable, and in my opinion, some not as reasonable.
In every wiki that I've been involved with, or have lurked around, it seems as though the wiki sought to not only strengthen the site by adding content, but by also building the community of the wiki through encouraging (old and new) contributors to take an active role in the wiki. When a change was made, and someone had a concern about it, members discussed its merits. This type of a community necessitates compromising at times and coming to agreements.
So, with that said, I will create two headings on the talk page of the wiki's front page to further discuss the edits, and so that the conversation is not only on one member's talk page. But with that said, if this wiki decides that contributors need to wait a certain amount of time before making significant edits (though not necessarily changes), then I suggest that it be noted on the front page of this site to avoid further issues with its contributors. And if that is the case, I don't know if this wiki is the right fit for me. Karen (talk) 04:00, December 28, 2012 (UTC)
hello, Karen, what kind of changes will you like for this wiki, I am open to ideas and suggestions.
thanks, JP Daboss (talk) 09:45, December 28, 2012 (UTC)
One of the suggestions I had, was to put the quotes in order that they are said in the episode. The main reason for doing this, is to make it easier for a visitor to find that quote in the episode if they wanted to watch it. And it provides some context or meaning to the quote.
My second suggestion was to organize the trivia section to give it more structure, rather than just a long list of facts. Here is an example that I did on After the Storm's trivia section. Memory Alpha is a very large and strong wiki, here is an example of how they handle the trivia section for an episode. I'm not saying to copy them exactly, but many other wiki's with a lot of content organize it this way. Karen (talk) 17:46, December 28, 2012 (UTC)

Affiliation

Hello, I am a staff member over at the Once Upon a Time wiki, and we are interested in becoming affiliated with your wiki, and hope you would be interested as well, as both our wikis are about ABC shows. Basically this would involve us placing out banner on our homepage, and you will do the same on yours. Even though I personally do not watch Castle, I know people who do. From what I hear, they have a lot in common. Potentially, this will interest users on both of our wiki's to visit the other. Thank you for your consideration, and I hope to hear back from you soon. Copyright again

Hi JP,I thought I let you know that some Wikia user copyrighted in the episode plot section from The Final Nail from ABC website. I corrected it and send a warning to them. Christy32 (talk) 20:26, January 23, 2013 (UTC)

Protect Castle Wiki

Wondering if there anyway to protect all of Castle Wiki from A Wikia contributor(s). They can sometimes use different IP address. I think maybe best require log in to contributor. Because just notice IPs that user doing same as the other IP. I been told that some editing sometimes comes from IPs address, and since people generally have a new IP every time they boot up their computers, tablet, or laptops, it's very hard to effectively block them. Also you might want to backup admin here or some to over see, since you are currently one active in last month or so. This is just my opinion. I just worry the way I'm seening the A Wikia contributor(s). Wanderer23 (talk) 18:57, January 30, 2013 (UTC)

i don't know if i can do that, i mean i don't know if there is a way, other then going through every page and protecting it, that will be a lot, but i can ask a Wikia staff member to help me, if you want to Daboss (talk) 06:26, February 2, 2013 (UTC)

Castle Wiki in Spanish

Hi Daboss, I'm the founder of Castle Wiki in Spanish. I've been putting interlanguage link (in Spanish sometimes we call interwiki link) between this wiki and my own, but the user Truly A Watcher told me to talk to you. That's okay to put interlanguage links between Castle Wiki in English  and Castle Wiki in Spanish? It is similar to what makes Wikipedia and other wikis on Wikia. Here's more information about links interwiki. I await your response. Regards! (Sorry for my english, I use a translator xD) SherKH - 18:16, February 4, 2013 (UTC)

Favicon idea

I have an idea for the favicon for the wiki, the pen from the Castle logo. If you don't know, the favicon is the small icon that shows up on tabs and bookmarks. I know how and where a favicon can be made. Zeta1127 of the 89th Legion (talk) 04:55, February 20, 2013 (UTC)

Copyright problem with User:AlexKnightNZ

Hi Daboss, it look we got a copyright violator, the user is AlexKnightNZ. Did this awhile back but was warn a couple of time but now in the last 12 hours copyright from ABC and almost every source that listed at Known Sources of Plagiarism that was created by other admin Chrazriit. He copyright back to the second episode of the first to last episode Still. So if it okay with you, I am banning this user for one week until tell me if this user should for long. I would be check and remove or rollback these episode. Christy32 (talk) 11:05, May 3, 2013 (UTC)

update, I count about 72 episodes. I put the ban for one week for this user. Also I current have some trouble with my computer and internet service, but work out so may take sometime if miss something. Christy32 (talk) 12:08, May 3, 2013 (UTC)

Hi, Mr. Thibault. I'm Wallace.

Is it just me or am I the only one visiting this wiki? I loved this show Castle immensely and this show is, by far, the only show I know that has better later-episodes ratings than the pilot. I spent entire days watching this show and I rarely changed windows.

I don't have any more doubts now. The "America's Most Favourite Couple" really lived up to their title.

Any chance we can get connected? I'd love to have some "Castle Talk" with you.

Leave messages on my wall whenever you like!

I need some wisdom. How do I add a picture to an article and move it to the left side? All the uploaded photos are on the right side.

Thanks.

A question of pictures

Is it worth creating gallery pages for episodes and/or characters, in your opinion? Alex Kirk-and-tribbles Jiskran 00:39, February 5, 2014 (UTC)

Recap

Since the plagiarism purges, there are very few of these left. Any feelings about average/ideal length, and how simple or poetic the language should be? Christy pointed out, very reasonably, that the average user isn't looking for complex linguistic structures, so would you say that applies to length too? Alex Kirk-and-tribbles Jiskran 02:42, February 7, 2014 (UTC)

A dropbox, perhaps

I have the feeling I'm irritating Christy again, although I hope not by my edit count or manner this time, so I was wondering if there might not be some location (not anyone's talk page) to leave ideas, which Admins could look at when they had time, and delete or implement as they see fit? A 'suggestions box' of some kind, with no promises that anything would happen, just a place for such things to sit safely until an Admin got around to them. That way the time zone issue wouldn't arise and no one, myself included, would begin to expect an instant response. Alex Kirk-and-tribbles Jiskran 05:11, February 13, 2014 (UTC)

PS I do realise it may be a while before you see this, but there's no rush, I feel. A

we do have a admin section on the forum Daboss (talk) 06:26, February 13, 2014 (UTC)

I think I'm out of step - again

I have to say, I'm confused by the problem with adding pages to red links, since there are hundreds of them, and hundreds more not even created as links. I know people want to 'safeguard' the quality and accuracy of information on this wiki, but as a result it is a fraction of the size it could easily be. I agree entirely that we should not be following around behind other people constantly amending their work, but with regard to whole new pages where previously there was nothing, I believe this is and should be a different situation. The wiki has, to the best of my knowledge, a single active Admin, plus occasional contributions from yourself. Season Six is on air, yet as far as I know not even Season One has a full set of recaps, characters and no red links. Surely editing can be done later to clear up any minor misinformation, but as Wikia is not a legally recognized or copyrighted source of information, I would presume people using it are aware that slip-ups, occasionally, occur. Alex Kirk-and-tribbles Jiskran 15:23, February 22, 2014 (UTC)

Hello! This is Killian Jones, from the Once Upon a Time Wiki. I was wondering why you are no longer displaying the affiliated wikis' wordmarks on your homepage. The OUaT wiki is still displaying your wordmark, so I think it is only fitting that you do the same thing. Anyway, please let me know if you intend on brining the affiliates section back, or if instead I'd rather remove the Castle Wiki wordmark from our affiliates section. Thank you for your time! The children's names of Kate and Rick

Hello. I was looking at the articles for Kate and Rick and noticed that their children have names. I was wondering what the source of those names is. I don't see a citation anywhere about them. LA Please keep conversations together, reply here. @ 08:24, March 2, 2020 (UTC)
